Conclusions

6.1 There is an overwhelming body of opinion among the people living and working within the Terraces in favour of keeping the right hand turn from London Road into Blenheim Place open.

6.2 This web site has presented a series of arguments and objections to the closure on the basis of:

  • Compromised accessibility
  • Unacceptability of alternative routes
  • Marginalisation and isolation of the Church
  • Isolation of the community at large
  • Effect on business
  • Security
  • Increase in carbon emissions and pollution .

6.3 The reasons for closing this right hand turn have been shown to be flawed.

6.4 An accompanying technical report by Goodson Cole Transportation has outlined a simple alternative to the closure of the right hand turn into Blenheim Place.

6.5 We recommend that the City of Edinburgh Council review and redesign the Blenheim Place junction to allow a right hand turn from London Road into Blenheim Place.

6.6 We recommend that the City of Edinburgh Council investigate methods of traffic calming along Royal Terrace.
